Tesla has revealed on Friday the prototype of a humanoid robotic which it claims could be a potential future product that the automaker will develop.

The robot, named Optimus by Tesla was stiff on stage during Tesla's AI Day, slowly waved at the crowd and made gestures using its hands for about one minute.

Tesla President Elon Musk claimed that the robot operated without a tether, for the first time.

The majority of robotics engineers utilize tethers to help support robots since they're not able enough to walk on their own without being injured or falling.

The Optimus capabilities appear to be far behind the robots of rivals such as the Hyundai owned Boston Dynamics are capable of.

Boston Dynamics robots have been seen performing back flips and sophisticated dance routines with no tether.

"The robot is capable of doing much more than what we've shown the world," Musk said at the ceremony. "We wanted it to be safe and not to collapse on its own."

Tesla also released videos of its robots performing simple tasks such as transporting boxes and watering plants using the watering container.
