When will the live broadcast start?
The live broadcast will commence at 5:20 PM Indian Standard Time (IST) on August 23, 2023.
How can I watch the live broadcast?
The live broadcast will be telecasted on Doordarshan (DD National). It will also be streamed live on ISRO’s website and social media handles like YouTube, Facebook, Twitter etc.
What is the objective of the Chandrayaan-3 mission?
The objective of Chandrayaan-3 is to demonstrate India’s ability to soft land on the lunar surface. The lander will carry lunar rovers to explore the surface of the Moon. Some of the scientific payloads onboard aim to study the lunar topography, mineralogy, elemental abundance, lunar exosphere and signs of water molecules on the Moon.
What will happen during the soft landing sequence?
During the live broadcast, viewers will be able to watch the descent and soft landing maneuvers of the Vikram lander module as it attempts to lower itself on the lunar south polar region. The commentary will explain each step of the precise braking process involving firing of rockets to minimize landing speed for a safe touchdown on the lunar surface.
What if the soft landing is not successful?
Space missions have inherent risks and uncertainty. While ISRO will make its best efforts for a successful soft landing, there is a possibility it may not be achieved. In such a scenario, the live broadcast may be concluded without a confirmed landing. ISRO will analyze telemetry data and make announcements on the outcome later.
