Chandrayaan-3 on Moon India Creates History Again, Lands
In a monumental achievement, ISRO successfully landed India’s Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft near the Moon’s southern pole on August 23rd, 2022. The graceful soft landing was the climax of a 41-day journey that began on July 14th.
Led by scientists in Bengaluru, ISRO overcame previous setbacks to achieve the difficult feat of landing in uncharted lunar terrain. As the 1,752 kg lander-rover combo touched down gently at 6:04 IST, applause and cheers erupted at mission control.

Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi, watching anxiously from South Africa, broke into a smile on seeing the landing confirmed. India had joined an elite club by landing near the relatively unexplored south pole.
The Indian cricket fraternity watched with pride as their country blazed a trail in lunar exploration once more. In a video shared by BCCI, Team India was engrossed in following every moment of the landing before their match in Ireland.
Equipped with advanced payloads, the Chandrayaan-3 craft will now commence important scientific activities. Its 6-wheeled rover will explore the region’s potential frozen water reserves and valuable elements over the next 14 days.
This success comes after Chandrayaan-2’s heartbreaking crash landing in 2019. ISRO shows its mettle by rising from setbacks to achieve complex lunar feats. As science triumphs, India strengthens its global leadership in low-cost satellite missions.
