“Disqualified Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra Receives Fresh Notice to Vacate Government Bungalow” – The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry has issued a fresh notice to Mahua Moitra, a former Trinamool MP, to vacate her government bungalow. Moitra, who was expelled from Lok Sabha on December 8, 2023, has been given time until January 16 to appear before the Directorate of Estates (DoE). The DoE has asked her to submit her reply to the notice within three days.
Moitra was earlier asked to vacate the house by January 7 after her allotment was cancelled. The Delhi High Court allowed her to approach the DoE with a request to continue occupying the government accommodation allotted to her. However, the court noted that the law mandates issuing notice to a resident before eviction and the government has to take steps to evict the petitioner in accordance with the law.
Moitra was held guilty of ‘unethical conduct’ and expelled from Lok Sabha for allegedly accepting gifts from businessman Darshan Hiranandani and sharing her user ID and password of the Parliament website with him. The fresh notice serves as a setback for Moitra, who has been a prominent figure in Indian politics for over two decades.
