The leader of Samajwadi Party in the Indian parliament Akhilesh Yadav, who delivered a speech replete with messages for the opposition, expressed his hope that the Speaker would be fair and balanced towards the opposition.
While extending his greetings over the election of Om Birla as the Lok Sabha speaker, Akhilesh pointed that actions such as suspension of MPs, demeans the dignity of the house.
”I think that, no public representative’s voice will be suppressed, action such as expulsion is not going to happen again again.Your control is on the Opposition but it should be on the ruling side too,” the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh said.
The comments from the Samajwadi president have been interpreted to include this record of suspension of MPs in the last winter of the Parliament. Another MP who was thrown out on charges of ethical violation was Mahua Moitra of TMC.
The two-minute speech of the UP Youth CM Akhilesh Yadav was full of irony and a clear cut slap on the face of Lok Sabha Speaker.
The former Chief Minister also expected the Speaker to be neutral towards the Opposition, noting that neutrality forms part of this importantes post.
”The House should be moving on your instructions and not the other way round.” We support all the right decisions that you are taking… I also hope you shall respect the opposition in the same way you respect the government side.”
Akhilesh Yadav: ‘you are here as the chief justice of the court of democracy’.
In the earlier voice-voted election for the Speaker’s post, Om Birla triumphed over K Suresh — the opposition INDIA bloc’s candidate. This was the first time such poll had been conducted since 1976.
This year’s eight-day session of the 18 th Lok Sabha began on Monday, with its Prime Minister Narendra Modi and all other Members taking oath as members of the House of the People.
