According to a forthcoming Big Bang Theory oral history that will be released soon, the most popular actress Kaley Cuoco was close to not getting any leading roles at all. The book details that the pilot was originally starring the female lead “Katie” that was a complete opposite to Cuoco’s Penny. Instead of being an optimistic Midwestern positive person, Katie was “cynical, unhappy, and unattractive” According to an October. 6 story in The Hollywood Reporter.
