Sri Lanka produced a dominant performance to beat Pakistan at 23-runs during the Asia Cup 2022 final on Sunday.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa (71*) and Wanindu Hasaranga (3/27) were the mainstays of the evening in the case of Sri Lanka as they lifted an unprecedented Asia Cup 2022 sixth title for the continent in Dubai.
After being given the opportunity to bat Sri Lanka posted 170/6 in just 20 overs.
Pakistan even though they had an impressive 71-run partnership at the third wicket was able to lose the momentum in the last few overs when the team was bowled away for an astronomical batsman’s collapse.
After requesting Sri Lanka to bat first, Pakistan made a blistering start when Naseem Shah smashed the well-played Kusal Mendis in the opening over of the game,
however, Rajapaksa together with Dhananjaya de Silva (28) and Wanindu Hasaranga (36) made powerful contributions to bring the Lankans to a thumping total in Dubai.
For Pakistan the captain Babar Azam failed again as the batsman was dismissed in 5 off 6 balls even when Mohammad Rizwan (55) forged an 71-run stand alongside Iftikhar Ahmed (32) In the end, the players on green failed to take advantage of the same since no player in the 5-11 positions, barring Haris Rauf (13) could reach the double figures.
Hasaranga was a star also with the ball and picked three wickets, while allowing 27 runs over his four overs. However, Pramod Madushan, who been making the T20I debut in the previous match played by Sri Lanka against the same opposition at the Asia Cup, took four wickets, including one of Babar Azam to become the most prolific player in Sri Lankan team. Chamika Karunaratne also took 2 wickets to his name, while Maheesh Theekshana was economical in his four overs, registering figures of 1/25
The Sri Lankans won their sixth continental championship Asia Cup 2022 and a step closer to India as which is the team with the highest success of the Asia Cup with 7 titles to their name. Furthermore, this the first time Sri Lanka has won an Asia Cup 2022 title in the T20 format.

Fantastic Sri Lanka clinch the title Asia Cup 2022
Just as it was the right time for Pakistan to get their pedal to the metal, Sri Lanka bowled and played with aplomb. They drained the runs, increasing pressure, while also increasing the rate of runs. This was rewarded with Iftikhar first losing 32, and Madushan taking his third wicket. Mohammad Nawaz too couldn’t deliver the big hits, crashing to 6 against Karunaratne.
It was now it was up to Rizwan who was the batter in charge, to lead Pakistan to victory, given that they required 69 deliveries from 28. After scoring his 50th century, Rizwan would be outfoxed by Hasaranga. Sri Lanka etched closer to winning, with the required run rate close to that 16 run mark. Hasaranga was then was dismissed Asif Ali with a first-ball duck and followed that up by dismissing Khushdil Shah for 2.
Pakistan will eventually lose wickets and Karunaratne receiving the last scalp of Haris Rauf. Sri Lanka won by 23 runs to be the winners of this year’s Asia Cup 2022.
