Glenn Maxwell had a bad game when the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) played the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2024. Sunil Gavaskar, a cricket legend, criticized Maxwell’s performance harshly. RCB was at the bottom of the points table. They needed to win to make the playoffs. But they had trouble playing well.

RCB played SRH at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. They struggled to chase SRH’s high score of 288 runs. RCB lost 6 wickets in the process. To try and change their luck, RCB made a bold move. They kept out their lead bowler Mohammed Siraj and all-rounder Maxwell from playing in the match.

Failing to chase a huge score of 288, posted by the Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Royal Challengers Bangalore notched up only 216/6 runs in their 17 overs. They now have even less hope of making the playoffs after suffering a truly spectacular defeat.

Desperate Measures:

In a last chance gamble to save their season, RCB swapped Mohammad Siraj and Glenn Maxwell for some key player. Nevertheless, the wavering decision caused the demise of the other bowlers which the SRH batsmen tactfully exploited.

SRH Sets Record:

SRH was entrusted to bat first in the game where they broke IPL records by scoring the highest total – 287/3. The innings was given a new level by awesome strokes from the bat of Travis Head (102), Abhishek Sharma (34), Heinrich Klaasen (67), Aiden Markram (32), and Abdul Samad (37).

Maxwell’s Struggles:

As the commentator, Sunil Gavaskar wittingly noted, Maxwell found it difficult against the fast bowling attack. “He has not been able to go down the ground and take the deliveries bouncing at chest or shoulder height,” stated Gavaskar. RCB which has seen a major weakness that has been compounded by his lackluster contribution with the bat (32 runs in 6 innings).

Looking Ahead:

RCB needs a total change in tactics to save their campaign. Their future will be closely monitored by many fans and analysts following their important matches still to be played.
