Manoj Kumar Sharma, an IPS officer, was promoted from Deputy Inspector General (DIG) to Inspector General (IG) in the Maharashtra Police. Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s “12th Fail” is based on Sharma’s life. The IPS officer expressed his “deep appreciation to all” on the microblogging platform X, which was formerly known as Twitter, for their support.

“The Government of India’s directive has led the process that began with ASP to become IG today. Heartfull thanks to everyone who has helped me along the way,” he wrote on social media.

Vikrant Massey and Palak Lalwani appeared in “12th Fail,” an adaptation of Anurag Pathak’s best-selling novel. Manoj Kumar Sharma, an IPS officer, and Shraddha Joshi, an IRS officer, were both featured in the movie. Despite failing the first three times, he took the UPSC civil service test four times. Upon his fourth attempt, he achieved an All India Rank (AIR) of 121 and passed the exam. After serving as an Additional Commissioner in the Mumbai Police, Sharma was appointed as an IPS officer.

Sharma, a citizen of Madhya Pradesh’s Morena area, was raised in extreme poverty. In classes nine and ten, he received a third division. With the exception of Hindi, he failed every subject on the class 12 board exams. In class twelve, he fell in love with Shraddha Joshi. Having failed class 12, he was unable to pop the question to Joshi. Sharma was terrified, but after much consideration, he asked Joshi to marry him, and to his surprise, she said yes. He continued, “If you say yes, then I will turn the world around,” as he made the proposal to the girl.

After that, Manoj Sharma began preparing for the UPSC CSE. Sharma had a difficult time getting into the IPS. In order to get some money, he drove fast and frequently spent the night sleeping on the sidewalk. In addition, he worked at a Delhi library, which helped him prepare greatly for the UPSC.

Manoj persevered through his early disappointments and took the UPSC exam four times. Despite failing in his first three attempts, he finally succeeded on his fourth attempt, earning an All India Rank of 121. In the Maharashtra Police, he was recently promoted from Deputy Inspector General (DIG) to Inspector General (IG).

Manoj is an inspiration to many, having overcome financial difficulties and academic disappointments to become a prominent IPS officer. Manoj Kumar Sharma’s life is portrayed in the film “12th Fail,” which filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra made based on Anurag Pathak’s book. The story of Sharma—from failing student in class 12 to IPS officer—is the basis for the film. His personal life is also highlighted in the movie, in addition to his career.

Educational Qualification

Manoj received a third division for passing his courses 9 and 10. He passed class eleven but not class twelve. All subjects except Hindi were a wash for him. He did, however, eventually pass the test on his second try. He then graduated with a B.A. in history and Hindi.

IPS Manoj Kumar Sharma’s Rank in Police

Manoj Kumar Sharma, an IPS officer, was elevated from his former role as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Maharashtra Police to the prestigious rank of Inspector General (IG). This significant career advancement was announced after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the promotions of IPS officials from the 2003, 2004 and 2005 batches.
