Judge Judy was born Judith Susan Blum in Brooklyn, New York. Her name as a bride was Judy Sheindlin.

She attended James Madison High School and then went to American University in Washington, DC.

When she passed the bar exam at the age of 65, Judy was appointed as a corporate attorney for the cosmetics industry.

Judy was unhappy with her work and resigned after two years to take care of her two children. In 1972,

she worked as the family court prosecutor over 17 years. Then, she became an adjudicator of the court for criminal cases, and the judge who supervises the system of family courts of New York.

Following watching the 60 Minutes special gave her fame across the country, Judy was approached about appearing on a courtroom reality show that would showcase real-life cases and real rulings.

Judy was struck by a stroke in March of 2011. She collapsed on the stage of her show when she was looking over an investigation. She was discharged from the hospital on the next day.
