Magnitude 5.4 quake off Greek islands; no damage reported
Greek authorities have reported that an earthquake of an initial magnitude of 5.4 was felt off the west coast of the islands
Zakynthos and Cephalonia and Cephalonia, but there has been no injury or damage that is confirmed.
It is reported that the Athens Geodynamic Institute said the undersea earthquake occurred around 10.36 a.m.(0736 GMT)
Roughly 57 kilometers (35 miles) southwest of Lixouri on Cephalonia in the Ionian Sea. It was felt throughout much of the western part of Greece.
The Fire Service said it had no reports of injuries or damage caused by the earthquake.
The region is among the areas that are most susceptible to earthquakes in Greece This, in turn, is one of the most seismically active regions.
Although earthquakes that occur in Greece are quite common, major injuries and deaths aren't. The year 1999 saw a earthquake close to Athens killed 143 people.
