A sub-divisional magistrate from Madhya Pradesh’s Dindori district was allegedly suffocated to death by her husband due to a dispute over her failure to designate him as her nominee in her service book, insurance, and bank account, as per police reports.
Details of the Tragic Incident
Nisha Napit, a 51-year-old SDM, and her husband Manish Sharma, 45, who had met through a matrimonial site, tied the knot in 2020. The couple’s marriage was reportedly marred by tension, with Sharma allegedly pressuring his wife for money due to his unemployment.
Alleged Murder and Cover-Up
According to police, Sharma purportedly used a pillow to suffocate his wife on Sunday and then spent six hours beside her body before transporting it to a nearby community health center. Medical staff at the center alerted the authorities. Additionally, it is claimed that Sharma attempted to conceal evidence by washing the blood-stained clothes and the pillow in a washing machine.
Family’s Accusations
Napit’s sister, Nilima Napit, accused Sharma of her sister’s murder, alleging that he had subjected her to mental and physical abuse and had been fixated on gaining access to her financial resources. She stated that the family had sought assistance from local law enforcement but had been advised to resolve the matter privately.
Husband’s Account
When questioned by the police about his wife’s demise, Sharma purportedly informed them that she had been unwell due to a kidney ailment and had been fasting on the day of her passing. He claimed that she had vomited during the night and had been given medication, but had not regained consciousness the following day.
