Shikhar Dhawan, who has been for the last two seasons the captain of Punjab Kings, is an established name in the IPL and Indian cricket. On the other hand, an illness peeled him off the IPL 2024 captaincy shoot team, and being the next in line, Jitesh Sharma represented the team.
Jitesh Sharama, a 30-year-old wicketkeeper-batter, is going to serve as the deputy captain of the Punjab Kings side. He started his IPL journey in 2022 and has played 26 matches from the franchise with his name written as 543 runs as well. Besides, Sharma also took part in T20Is in 2023 and has played 9 T20s for India.
The decision to make Jitesh Sharma lead comes after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma skipper appoints for Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians, respectively. This is the inception of a new phase in the IPL with exciting young leaders who will lead the position.
