Punjab Kings Captain 2024: Shikhar Dhawan Takes a Halt, Jitesh Sharma Takes The Helm.

One of the most famous and popular franchises of the Indian Premier League (IPL) i.e. Punjab Kings has recently paved its way towards new leadership. Shikhar Dhawan, the Dhoni-led team’s captain has stepped down citing personal reasons. Jitesh Sharma will now lead the squad in the upcoming IPL 2024 season.

Shikhar Dhawan, who has been for the last two seasons the captain of Punjab Kings, is an established name in the IPL and Indian cricket. On the other hand, an illness peeled him off the IPL 2024 captaincy shoot team, and being the next in line, Jitesh Sharma represented the team.

Jitesh Sharama, a 30-year-old wicketkeeper-batter, is going to serve as the deputy captain of the Punjab Kings side. He started his IPL journey in 2022 and has played 26 matches from the franchise with his name written as 543 runs as well. Besides, Sharma also took part in T20Is in 2023 and has played 9 T20s for India.

The decision to make Jitesh Sharma lead comes after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma skipper appoints for Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians, respectively. This is the inception of a new phase in the IPL with exciting young leaders who will lead the position.

The Punjab Kings who finished last in the IPL 2023 will usher in their 2024 campaign with the Delhi Capitals at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Stadium in Mullanpur. The side have made various effective acquisitions for the 2024 edition of the IPL Auction targeting middle-order, all-rounders such as Harshal Patel,

Jitesh Sharma’s appointment as a captain for Delhi is a call made after the skippers of Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians had stepped down, which are Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. It is introducing a new phase of the IPL, where we see the culmination of all the work done and are headed towards the future with exuberating young leaders who will lead the positions.

The Punjab Kings, who finished in the last place in the IPL 2023, are yet to see the sun rising in their 2024 season on April 1 when they will play at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Stadium in Mullanpur against the Delhi Capitals. The franchise has done a marvellous job for the 2024 version of the IPL auction in arising to the demands of both the batting and bowling end of the wicket with players like Harshal Patel.
